Origin of the Name

We borrow our name from the great river that flows from the Turkish mountains to the Persian Gulf. Together with the Euphrates, these rivers define Mesopotamia, often referred to as the cradle of civilization.

The Tigris, which is the swifter of the two rivers, brought much-needed water to early settlements along its bank, leading to the establishment of the Sumerian civilization, dating back to 4500 BC. The Sumerians are credited with developing advanced agricultural methods, as well as establishing industries such as weaving, leatherwork, metalwork, masonry, and pottery, along with developing a burgeoning trade economy. Most notably, they were the first to develop a written language, in large part to help keep track of increasingly complex trading transactions.  

We'd like to think of our firm in analogous terms – providing much-needed capital to early-stage innovations, to help improve quality of life and protect the environment, while contributing in at least a small way to fostering a more prosperous local economy.
